Brian Morr (@sinkthesun) was born in Long Island and grew up in New York City. While normally known for his sharp casual looks, he suited up with SENE and shared his story of using Instagram in the big city.
How did you get started with Instagram? Why do you do it and why do you think you gained the following that you have?
Well, if you go reeeeeally far back you might see a young, extremely filtered Brian with a Justin Bieber-like haircut. Scary, I know. After college and when I moved to the city, I started to get pretty serious about my photography and posting pictures on social media. I followed a few well-known Instagram accounts such as @aguynamedpatrick and @grantlegan and took inspiration from their work. I began to catch the eye of both my family and friends and randoms on social media and then progressively gained a following over time. No big "success over night" story here, sorry.
Tell us a little bit about your background. How did you end up in New York?
I'm originally from Long Island; a born and raised New Yorker. Grew up in a small town only 40 minutes outside the city. By the time I moved into Manhattan I was pretty acclimated with the scene being it was a weekend activity for my friends and I.
What do you do outside of Instagram?
Little does anyone that I actually have a real job apart from the Instagram world. I work at a hotel downtown in SoHo and to be honest I actually really enjoy my job and my colleagues. It's a very humbling experience.
What are your favorite places to hang in New York?
I'm absolutely in love with the East Village. Much so that I'm moving there at the end of the October. I'm not sure whether there's some sort of different vibe over there but the scene and atmosphere pulls me right in. I'm also beginning to love the downtown area near South Street Seaport, it's so pretty and reminds me of Boston harbor.
What’s something people who only know you thru Instagram would be surprised to know?
The way to my heart is an by an Oreo :)
